New York City, NY – Marcum LLP, a national accounting and advisory firm, today announced the promotion of 13 associates to partner. Effective immediately, the new partners are Mary Anne Mascarenas Alino (New York City); Jana Aristizabal (Miami); Sougata Banerjee (Irvine, CA); Barry Burchel (Deerfield, IL); Joanne Cristiano (New Haven, CT); Sunil Jain (San Francisco); Thomas Keane (Neptune, NJ); Kim Lowney (Philadelphia); Lawrence Montgomery (Philadelphia); Daniel Roche (New York City); Lori Rock (Los Angeles); Gary Rosen (New York City); and Peter Scavuzzo (Melville, NY).

About the New Partners

Advisory, Valuation & Litigation Support

Thomas Keane, CPA, ABV, CFF, CVA, is a partner in the Dissolution and Forensics Practice groups. He provides economic, financial, and accounting services to attorneys involved in various litigation matters, focusing on business valuations and matrimonial litigation. He also provides services in forensic accounting, investigations, and operational reviews. He holds a B.S. in Accounting from the State University of New York – Albany.

Daniel R. Roche, CPA, ABV, ASA, is a partner in the Business Valuation and Litigation Support groups. His experience includes appraising companies and intangible assets for litigation (family law, commercial litigation, bankruptcy litigation) and non-litigation (estate and gift tax/financial reporting) purposes. He is a frequent presenter on business valuation topics and contributes articles to professional journals as well as to Marcum’s Forensics Files newsletter. Mr. Roche received his Master of Business Administration in Finance from Rutgers University and his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Monmouth University.

Gary B. Rosen, CPA, CFE, CFF, CVA, CGMA, is leader of the Advisory Services group in New York City and is a member of the national Forensics Practice. He provides solvency, valuation opinions, and asset recovery for closely held and public corporations, real estate entities, financial services institutions, business development companies, private equity funds, government agencies, and international corporations. His extensive experience includes fraud engagements, forensic accounting, complex litigation matters, shareholder/partnership disputes, and other areas of investigative accounting, and he has served as an expert witness in numerous litigation cases. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Rutgers University.

Assurance Services

Mary Anne Mascarenas Alino, CPA, is a partner in the Real Estate group. She provides audit services to commercial, hotel, retail and residential real estate organizations including REITS, institutional investors, opportunity funds, and private investors. Ms. Alino holds a B.S. in Accountancy from De La Salle University in the Philippines and is licensed in the State of New York.

Sougata Banerjee, CPA, performs audit engagements for both private and publicly held companies in a variety of industries, including healthcare, life sciences and medical technology, consumer and industrial products, energy, utilities, renewable energy, and real estate. His experience includes initial public offerings, Sarbanes-Oxley 404 implementation, compliance audits, audits of investment trusts, complex financing transactions, and transaction due diligence. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honors from the University of Calcutta, India.

Sunil Jain, CA, CPA, is a partner in the SEC Practice group. With this promotion he is relocating from Marcum’s New York City office to the San Francisco office. Mr. Jain has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, initial public offerings, and capital financing transactions. He also advises private companies going public on capital raising strategies, reverse mergers, initial public offerings, and the securities registration process. He has worked with private and publicly held companies in a variety of industries including oil & gas, information & technologies, and biotechnology and life sciences. Mr. Jain holds a Bachelor of Commerce in Accountancy & Auditing from the University of the Rajasthan, India, and is licensed by the State of Delaware.

Kim Lowney, CPA, is a member of the Firm’s Quality Control and Technical Review Department. She provides guidance to Firm professionals and clients on complex technical accounting and reporting issues. She has an extensive knowledge of GAAP, auditing standards, and SEC reporting requirements, and works closely with client engagement teams to provide strategic assistance and quality control reviews for private and publicly traded companies in diverse industries. Ms. Lowney holds a Bachelor of Science, Accounting, from Rider University.

Lawrence P. Montgomery, IV, CPA, provides SEC compliance and reporting, consulting, and due diligence services for merger and acquisition transactions. He has extensive experience using IDEA data extraction software to improve the efficiency and quality of assurance engagements. Mr. Montgomery is a member of the Firm’s national Audit Efficiency Committee and Revenue Recognition SEC Task Force Committee, and is co-editor of Marcum’s SEC Insights newsletter. He is a recipient of the Young Leaders Award from the Pennsylvania Institute of CPAs and the CPA Rising Star Award from Smart CEO. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Duquesne University.

Tax & Business Services

Jana Aristizabal, CPA, provides federal and state tax consulting and compliance services to corporations‚ partnerships and individual clients. She has worked on complex tax issues in IRS audits‚ business reorganizations‚ acquisitions, and international transactions for clients in a wide variety of industries. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants’ CPA Exam Content Committee and holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Central Florida.

Barry Burchel, CPA, specializes in high net worth individual and middle-market business taxation. He has worked extensively in strategizing and developing multifaceted tax plans with complex business structures and advising clients in complex multi-state taxation matters. He is heavily involved in research initiatives dealing with new legislation and developing areas of the tax code and case law. Mr. Burchel earned a B.S. in Accounting from Purdue University and an M.S. in Taxation from DePaul University.

Joanne Cristiano, CPA, specializes in small to medium closely held and family-controlled businesses. She serves clients in a variety of industries including medical practices, manufacturing, wholesale and distribution, and restaurant operations. As a member of the Accounting Services department, she also is active in developing CPE programs and other training aids for the professional staff. Ms. Cristiano has a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Providence College.

Lori N. Rock, CPA, provides compliance and business consulting services to publicly traded and privately held companies in various industries, including retail, distribution, manufacturing, technology, and services. She has extensive experience with Accounting for Income Taxes as well as Accounting for Uncertainty in Income Taxes. Ms. Rock is an active member of the Firm’s State & Local Tax (SALT), Research & Development, and Corporate Tax Services Groups. She holds a B.A. in Business Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an M.S., Taxation, from Golden Gate University.

Information Technology

Peter Scavuzzo is responsible for the strategic technology roadmap across all Marcum Group companies. His current strategic charter encompasses Business Innovation, Digital Transformation, Customer Digital Experience, Data Analytics, and Security/Risk Aversion. During his tenure at Marcum, he has played a key role in the Firm’s expansion from two to 29 offices in the U.S. and abroad, successfully integrating more than 30 M&A transactions and seamlessly expanding and relocating 15+ offices. Mr. Scavuzzo earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering and Master of Science in Telecommunication Networks from Polytechnic University (now the NYU Tandon School of Engineering).
